From the ugly, imitation-Gibson, cyberpunk near-future universe of Hardwired (), Williams progresses to the fascinating and plausible medium-future of Bruce Sterling's splendid Schismatrix and Michael Swanwick's equally fine Vacuum Flowers (p. ); the upshot is a more considered and much improved adventure. Humans, then, have spread throughout the solar system in a variety of habitats. I read this book in High school, and a couple times after that. I've Listened to it about 5 times since I bought it. There's just something about it I love. Hardwired was a decent read but Voice of the Whirlwind is a far better book, and I'm sure I will listen to it again sometime soon. 1 person found this helpful.
